Sam joins other South Texas musicians on the walk of fame, such
as:
Freddy Fender: His distinctive voice and early hits such
as "Secret Love", "Wasted Days And Wasted Nights"
skyrocketed him to stardom in the '60s. With Grammy wins and nominations
in four categories over five decades as a solo artist and a member
of The Texas Tornados and Los Super Seven, Freddy has brought much
attention to Corpus Christi.
The Galvan Brothers: They opened the Galvan Ballroom in the
1940's. Over the years Eddie, Bobby, Ralph, and Sammy have performed
with such greats as Glen Miller and Elvis. They were also co-founders
of the Texas Jazz Festival, and owners of Galvan Music Store.
Guy Clark: Songs include "L.A. Freeway", "Texas
1947", "Desperados Waitng For A Train" and doezens
of other great American tuens. A star worldwide, Guy attended school
in Rockport and South Texas appears in many of the signer/songwriter's
award winning songs.
Roger Creager: Roger is the youngest memeber of this tribute.
He went to hight school in Corpus Christi, and his 3rd CD, "Long
Way to Mexico" is the No. 1 best seller at Surf Club Records.
Selena: A dynamic performer since age 9 and a memeber of
the enormously talented Quntanialla family. Selena was the fire
artist to place five Spanish Language albums simultaneously on the
Billboard top 200. Grammy wins in both '93 and '94 made her "Tejano
Artist Of The Decade" through her life was tragically ended
in '95, she still owns the hearts of fans all over the world.

Puppy: "Hot Smoke And Sassafras" is one of the most
recognized songs of the pshchedelic '60s. The band formed over several
years and included musicians from Corpus Christi. In a recent VH1
series, it was announced that "Hot Smoke And Sassafras"
is the No. 3 One Hit Wonder of all time.
The Pozo-Seco Singers: Folk trio whose 1966 hit was "Time."
Members from Corpus Christi are Lofton Kline, Susan Taylor and Don
Williams.
Isidro Lopez, "El Indio":
One of the founding fathers of Tejano music who began his recording
career in the late 1940’s and died in 2004.
Chris Layton: The Corpus Christi native toured with Stevie
Ray Vaughan, Double Trouble, the Arc Angels, The Bluesknights and
Grady.
Freddie Martiez Sr.: Martinez already had five Grammy Awards
when he founded Freddie Records in 1969.
The Zakary Thaks: The Texas garage rock band was one of the
hottest acts 35 years ago touring with the Yardbirds. |
